Useful apps

Zermatt  is technologically pretty advanced. There is wifi at every lift station and good network coverage anywhere you are on the mountain. So it is good to know some of the best apps to help make the most of your day, here are some of our favourites.

The Zermatt App

Matterhorn App

This is the app of the Zermatt Tourist Office. There is a lot of useful information on here that is not continually trying to sell you stuff like some tourist office apps which is nice. Good info on the weather and open lifts and webcams from all the mountains which is always useful to see what’s going on.

There are also useful things like the bus timetable and what events are going on in town.

Just remember if you search for apps on your phone it’s called Matterhorn not Zermatt!

Weather apps

MeteoSwiss Weather App

This is a great place to check the forecast, both the long term and short term. We particularly like the fact you can customise shortcuts so you can have various locations or resorts on the app as you open it. Also the radar shows the incoming weather for the next 36 hours. This is great when we are sitting watching fronts move in and keeping fingers crossed for all the snow!

Bergfex Weather App

Another great app in the weather forecasting collection.Great customisation by having the basic forecast & webcam views for all your favourite resorts so you can see who has the most snow!

Once you click on the resort you get a summary of the day and then the week ahead looking at temperatrue, wind, preciptation and sun. It give a great quick look at what;’s coming.

Two other great additions are the freezing level and the tabs at the top showing the forecast for the village and the top of the mountain. Really helpful to know how cold it is going to be up high.

You can also see what lifts are open and get a quick view of all the webcams to give you an idea of how it looks up the hill.

Other useful apps

White Risk App

The official app from the Swiss Avalanche Forecast Service.

If you are skiing off piste you need this one on your phone. It has the daily updated avalanche bulletin as well as detailed weather information. It also allows you to plan tours, look at avalanche terrain and a load of other invaluable resources.

Peakfinder App

This is a great app for helping identify the peaks on the skyline. The Matterhorn is easy to find, but if you are interested in knowing more of the rest of them then this uses GPS and then can place an overlay on top of your camera image to point out any mountain you like.

Skiline App

Download the Skiline app and put your lift pass number in there. Every time your lift pass is scanned it is recorded and the data is here for you to see. Know where you have been, how much vertical you have skied and enter competitions to see if you can get the most vertical in your resort for the season.
