How to get to Gornergrat
To get to the Gornergrat area from Sunnegga, you will travel right as you look at the piste map. There are 2 options, here’s how they work:
- Take the red (19) from Rothorn to Gant. Here the Hohtalli cable car will access the long red (44) with a challenging first few turns and then the long traverse across to Riffelberg.
- Alternatively ski through Findeln to the Eja chair and head up to Breitboden. Then take red (26) to Gant or red (27) to Riffelalp (where you can jump on the train to Gornergrat)
Sunnegga offers a great range of skiing for all abilities
Sunnegga piste highlights
Complete beginners will enjoy the ‘Wolli Park’ beginners area at Sunnegga, a perfect place to start your ski career or do a few turns if you need to build confidence again.
The Eisfluh run (5) is the easiest blue run in the resort. Progress from here to Findeln (6) and Blauherd (7). If you want to get higher, the blue from Rothorn (14) generally has good snow.
The reds from Rothorn to Blauherd (11) and Gant (19) are great, south facing and have continuous Matterhorn views.
The long Kumme piste (12, 15) is generally quiet and the new 10 man gondola offers a super quick return from Tuftern to Rothorn.
Beware: The run to town (1, 3) has a steep and narrow (albeit short) section near the bottom and can be challenging if it’s busy. For the less confident, the lift down is the better option.
The National piste (8) is a fantastic run from Blauherd and can be skied repeatedly using the Patrullarve chairlift.
Chamois and Marmotte (16 and 17) from Rothorn are great runs in the right conditions. Paradise (10) is often home to some of the best moguls in the resort
“You are spoilt for restaurant choices in the Sunnegga area. Spoilt for choice on run 6 alone in fact.”
