Equipment rental in Zermatt
In general, Zermatt has a very high standard of rental equipment. Wherever you rent equipment, you can be confident of new (or nearly new), high level skis, snowboards and boots.
Most shops will also offer to service or switch out equipment during your stay. This means you can grab more appropriate kit should conditions change and sharp edges whenever you need them.
Choosing a rental shop should probably depend mainly on it’s proximity to your accommodation but here are a few of our favourites:
BAYARD SPORT
The large shop directly opposite the train station has a fantastic selection of rental equipment. There’s also a huge range of clothing and accessories should you need to purchase anything for your time on the slopes. They also have a smaller rental shop at the bottom of the Sunnegga Express if you are starting your ski day there.
DORSAZ SPORT
This shop at the bottom of the Matterhorn Express has an excellent selection of equipment. It is unique in offering storage for your skis and boots overnight. This can make the journey from your accommodation to the slopes much more convenient, especially if you’re staying in the Winkelmatten area.
SLALOM SPORTS
Situated in the Steinmatte area near the church bridge. A great range of equipment and the only place you can test ski boots before you buy them.
JULEN SPORTS
In the middle of town opposite the ice rink. Julen have a very large rental department and are especially known for their excellent range of snowboard equipment.
MATTERHORN SPORTS
The main shop near the church is complimented with two more on the river. Very good selection of equipment.
MOUNTAIN SHOP
Situated on the main street and specialising in ski touring equipment. This is the place for all Salewa and Dynafit kit.
YOSEMITE
Our kind of shop. Yosemite stock freeride and touring equipment for off piste adventures. Their Faction, Black Crows and Black Diamond rental kit is great. Also, some of our favourite clothing brands for sale.
The other shops not mentioned on this list are invariably good. The one you choose might depend simply on the options closest to your accommodation. Most shops also have the option of reserving equipment in advance. This is useful if you know exactly the brand, model and size of kit you are looking for.
