Zum See has been a sought after lunch reservation for decades. The relaxed atmosphere, warm reception and fabulous food are always a hit. The quintessentially Swiss mountain hamlet provides a beautiful backdrop to lunch.

Findlerhof

This is a gem. The 100m wander down the path from the piste is worth the effort and gives the feeling of being in amongst the old farm buildings. The terrace is one of the best in Zermatt as it’s completely south facing and has perfect Matterhorn views. Inside the rustic feel gives the Findlerhof an ambiance that is unmatched in Zermatt. Franz and Heidi have run this for decades but have recently handed the reigns to their equally talented son, Franki. The service is top notch. The food is an elegant take on traditional dishes. From the mountain quiche to the grilled meats, they’re packed with flavour to match the surroundings. Definitely one for the ‘must eat here’ list.

Riffelhaus

The historic Riffelhaus Hotel dates back to 1853 and a time known as the Golden Age of mountaineering. The restaurant in the hotel is a great stop for lunch if you are skiing the Riffelberg pistes and are looking for something more than the large self service. The menu offers an elegant and contemporary take on traditional dishes. The restaurant also boasts spectacular views of the Matterhorn, both from the terrace and the dining room inside.

Hennu Stall

Apres in the Hennu is a bit of an institution if that’s your sort of thing.

Fluhalp

The location of this restaurant alone make it a special place to visit. Whether you ski red run 19 or walk the 35 minutes from Blauherd, you find yourself quite a distance from any of the lift infrastructure. In fact, the building was originally constructed as a base for climbers to stay before they embarked on an ascent of the 4000m peaks to the east.
Fluhalp has one of the largest terraces in the resort and the mountain views alone make it a worthwhile lunch stop. But the large menu is packed with a combination of local specialities and more creative dishes that will make you want to return again and again. From the home made rosti dishes to the ‘Testa Rossa Noodles’ , everything is created with care and attention to detail.

Blatten

Another great lunch spot with fantastic food and a traditional rustic feel. Half way down run 50 for skiers. The 20-30 min walk up from town is a great choice for non skiers who enjoy a bit of winter walking.

Al Bosco

A classy place with speciality pizzas. Non skiers take the Gornergrat train to Riffelalp and enjoy a flat, 6 minute walk through the trees. Skiers can ski to the door on the red run from Riffelberg (39).

Rothorn

The highest restaurant in the Sunnegga area at 3100m. The terrace has wide ranging views but weather needs to be very good to comfortable sit outside at this altitude. Easy access from the lifts makes this a great spot for skiers and non skiers to meet for lunch. The menu is Italian and their speciality pizzas are very good indeed.

Cervo

Situated at the bottom of the Sunnegga home run, Cervo’s location has a couple of big pluses. Firstly, it’s perfect for meeting non skiers for lunch and secondly, it’s a perfect place to get involved in some après ski. At lunchtime, the Madre Nostre and Bazaar restaurants offer high end food in very trendy surroundings. Despite the menus here being dominated by exotic combinations, the Cervo burger and truffle fries still has legendary status in town. From 4pm, the terrace sees a range of bands, musicians and dj’s to entertain while you enjoy a drink in the sun or really get the party started. Overall a great place to hang out and enjoy the vibes.

Aroleid

This creative Furi restaurant is great for any foodie who is looking for a twist on local traditional cuisine.
