Tufternalp

One of the best locations for a restaurant anywhere in the Alps. Situated beside the Tuftern piste (9) and with a view that could be soaked up for hours, this is a good stop after skiing from Blauherd or the Kumme piste from Rothorn.

Unfortunately, the reputation of the gentlemen running the Tufternalp is one of uncaring aloofness combined with aggressive protection of their property should they think for a moment you might not be about to purchase refreshments. This combined with an uninspiring menu of local cheese and meat make it low down the list of lunch spots.

Adler Hitta

One of the famous Findeln restaurants. Once you get past the famously gruff owner, you find yourself on a superb, large terrace with fabulous views. The main restaurant was renovated in recent years and has a more modern feel than rustic charm. The menu follows suit with a contemporary take on the traditional Swiss classic dishes. The speciality here is a whole chicken roasted over an open fire on the terrace. It’s not on the menu but is a perennial ‘dish of the day’.

Adlerhitta is host to numerous party events through the winter. Check their schedule for the Brazilian Samba party or end of season pond skim.

Findlerhof

This is a gem. The 100m wander down the path from the piste is worth the effort and gives the feeling of being in amongst the old farm buildings. The terrace is one of the best in Zermatt as it’s completely south facing and has perfect Matterhorn views. Inside the rustic feel gives the Findlerhof an ambiance that is unmatched in Zermatt.

Franz and Heidi have run this for decades but have recently handed the reigns to their equally talented son, Franki. The service is top notch.
The food is an elegant take on traditional dishes. From the mountain quiche to the grilled meats, they’re packed with flavour to match the surroundings.

Definitely one for the ‘must eat here’ list.

Cervo

Situated at the bottom of the Sunnegga home run, Cervo’s location has a couple of big pluses. Firstly, it’s perfect for meeting non skiers for lunch and secondly, it’s a perfect place to get involved in some après ski.

At lunchtime, the Madre Nostre and Bazaar restaurants offer high end food in very trendy surroundings. Despite the menus here being dominated by exotic combinations, the Cervo burger and truffle fries still has legendary status in town.

From 4pm, the terrace sees a range of bands, musicians and dj’s to entertain while you enjoy a drink in the sun or really get the party started.

Overall a great place to hang out and enjoy the vibes.
