Tufternalp

One of the best locations for a restaurant anywhere in the Alps. Situated beside the Tuftern piste (9) and with a view that could be soaked up for hours, this is a good stop after skiing from Blauherd or the Kumme piste from Rothorn.

Unfortunately, the reputation of the gentlemen running the Tufternalp is one of uncaring aloofness combined with aggressive protection of their property should they think for a moment you might not be about to purchase refreshments. This combined with an uninspiring menu of local cheese and meat make it low down the list of lunch spots.

Alphitta

With its panoramic view of the Matterhorn from its terrace and its wonderful swiss alpine-chic interior, it is the perfect place to enjoy your lunch with amazing views to the Matterhorn over the trees at Riffelalp. There is also a place ‘pit stop’ where you can get your skis tuned while you have lunch!

La Motta

A great stop if you are skiing over in Val Tournanche for the day. The restaurant has a simple bar and snack menu downstairs, with lots of seating inside and out. Upstairs you will find an a la carte restaurant with traditional dishes and good service.

Refuge du Theodul

A modern mountain hut on the Theodulpass between Switzerland and Italy. The dining room has huge windows looking back over the Cervinia ski area and the Italian side of the Matterhorn. A large fireplace is perfect to warm up on colder days. The menu is simple and basic but good and reasonably priced.

Rifugio Guide del Cervino – Testa Grigia

This is an old mountain hut on the boarder with Italy. Upstairs you will find a bar where you can get drinks and delicious sandwiches or cakes. Downstairs is restaurant with simple but tasty Italian food. The tables and chairs are squashed in close but that just adds to the warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Iglu-Dorf

This is literally an Igloo village that gets built each winter. You can even stay the night here and sleep on sheepskin rugs. If you are popping by during the day you will find it great for quick drink and snack. The menu is limited to a cheese fondue if you want something more substantial to eat. In the spring they often have great music playing and the vibe is very chilled, lounging in deck chairs while you soak up the mountain views in the sunshine.

Hotel restaurant Schwarzsee

The restaurant in Hotel Schwarzsee is traditional and simple. You will find local classics served without fuss. The huge south facing terrace, looking directly at the Matterhorn is a real plus in Spring.

Restaurant Vis à Vis

Located in the Kulm Hotel at the top of Gornergrat, resaurant Vis à Vis serves traditional local food. The views out of the large windows over to the Gorner gletscher, Monte Rosa and the other 4000m peaks next door are beautiful.

Ritti

A very small mountain restaurant. Traditional local dishes are served here, away from the crowds and the hustle and bustle of the busy ski area. Find yourself in the forest enjoying nature and the beautiful surroundings.
